Best alignment of benefits to business strategy

BNP Paribas

(Entered by Vebnet)

Ian Mackenzie, head of pensions and benefits UK, BNP Paribas

This award gives organisations the chance to demonstrate how their benefits strategy is aligned with their broader business strategy. BNP Paribas had the vision of being one bank. But it had: seven HR teams operating seven different payroll systems and more than 10 different pension schemes: quite the opposite of 'one bank'. This disparate setup was inefficient and resulted in employees receiving wildly varying benefits and service levels both between and within individual schemes. To overcome this, the bank embarked on an ambitious project, which resulted in all employees receiving a single set of benefits, significant cost savings for the organisation which helped to reduce pressures in lower margin businesses and improved employee engagement.

The judges said: “The strategy was in line with overall business strategy of creating one corporate culture and adding tangible value to the business. This was fundamental in creating a platform for moving the organisation forward.”
