Thomas Hiles, group benefits manager at BNP Paribas

For this award, the judges were looking for an employer that has implemented a successful strategy that has made delivering benefits through a flexible benefits plan effective in their organisation. BNP Paribas launched its flexible benefits scheme in 2014 as a means of aligning benefits across its seven companies, and providing all staff with the same package regardless of company or rank. The scheme replaced seven different previous packages, rendering this a complex task. The judges loved BNP Paribas’ innovation in its approach, particularly its inclusion of benefits such as genetic testing, and felt that it achieved strong results.

The judges said: “Its entry was just amazing, particularly its honesty around the huge challenge it faced in having to deal with seven different HR systems and having to reduce costs in line with its corporate values. And its innovation was fantastic; something quite special, particularly its genetics testing.”

The winner said: “We’ve been faced with some really mammoth changes and tasks. In about six to seven months, which is a really quick turnaround, we’ve changed from a company to a group, so we’ve incorporated flexible benefits from seven other employers, including the ones we had in the first place. “I think the plan has had a really good effect on our staff, especially because they didn’t have access to many of the benefits before [the change].”
